What a Month!!!

Good morning all! What a month it has been. Let me give you an update about what has been going on here:

The bees died. I was very sad about this because they were our friends bees so I have decided I am not a good babysitter. I loved having them here so much we purchased our own hive that will be here Saturday! Yeehaw! I watched a video about hiving them and totally freaked out so our friend is coming over to hive them for me. Thank you Dan Purvis with http://www.purvisbees.com/

We purchased a new round of laying hens this year. All 9 of my other hens all have new homes which I am very happy about. We purchased 10 but then I lost my first baby chick EVER. It was very sad for me but I guess she was just not strong enough. We purchased 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Buff Orphingtons, 2 Jersey giants, 2 Wellsummers and 1 Aracaunas.  We haven’t named them all but I’m thinking a naming contest would be fun! Stay tuned!

Then the Freedom Rangers (meat birds) arrived and things changed. We bought 30 lost 7 and then I went and purchased 10 more. I could not figure out what was going on. I lost 5 of them within 12 hours and the 2 more within 24. Well everyone seems be doing well now, in fact they are eating and pooping machines. I feel like all my life revolves around is poop right now, LOL.

We attended the documentary “Occupy the Farm” at Stargazers theater. It was very, very good. if you get a chance to see it, DO! http://occupythefarmfilm.com/

Well that about sums up the last month. (besides getting garden beds ready, planting the greenhouse, planting warm season starts, cleaning the coop and brooders, etc, etc, etc.) So have you got your plan together for growing something this year? If you need help/ideas just message me and I will do my best to help you. Grow something, one thing! Start somewhere!

Have a great weekend everyone !

Kellie

P.S. I was so excited to be interviewed last weekend by Christine faith with right to Thrive. Here it is: http://www.righttothrive.org/2015/04/23/homegrown-and-happiness/
